Is it right for you?

Who clear aligners suit

A good fit if you have

  • Crowded or overlapping front teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Teeth that have shifted after braces years ago
  • A mild to moderate overbite, underbite or crossbite
  • Adults and teenagers who want an option that is hard to notice
  • Professionals who cannot take time off for frequent adjustments

We may suggest something else if

  • Severe bite problems where the jaws themselves are misaligned
  • Teeth that need to be rotated or moved a long way, where braces are more predictable
  • Active gum disease or untreated cavities, which we treat first
  • Anyone who cannot commit to wearing the trays 20 or more hours a day

How it works

Clear Aligners at i-Smile, step by step

  1. 1

    Consultation and digital scan

We examine your teeth and gums, take a digital X-ray, and scan your teeth with an intraoral scanner. No messy impressions.

  2. 2

    3D treatment preview

Within a few days you see a simulation of how your teeth will move and what the end result looks like, along with the number of trays and the cost.

  3. 3

    Your aligners arrive

Small tooth-coloured attachments may be bonded to a few teeth to help the trays grip. You take home your first set of trays and a wear schedule.

  4. 4

    Change trays every 1–2 weeks

Each tray moves your teeth a fraction of a millimetre. You wear each for 7 to 14 days, taking them out only to eat, drink anything other than water, and brush.

  5. 5

    Short check-ups

Every 6 to 8 weeks Dr. Upasana checks progress and hands over the next batch. Visits take about 15 minutes.

  6. 6

    Refinement and retainers

If a few teeth need extra movement, a short refinement set is made. Once done, retainers hold your new smile in place.

Which aligners do we use?

There are two broad choices in Mumbai today, and we offer both.

Invisalign is the original clear aligner system from Align Technology, USA. Its SmartTrack material applies gentler, more predictable force, and its planning software has data from millions of cases. It is the safer choice for harder movements such as rotating canines, closing large gaps or correcting a deep bite. It is also the most expensive option.

Toothsi and other Indian aligner brands are designed and manufactured in India. The trays are made from similar medical-grade plastics, and for mild to moderate crowding or spacing the results are comparable. Because they are made locally, they cost roughly half as much and replacement trays arrive faster.

Dr. Upasana has planned cases on both systems since aligners became mainstream in India. After your scan she will tell you whether your case is one where the brand makes a real difference or one where an Indian brand will do the job just as well.

What treatment actually feels like

The first tray feels tight, as if your teeth are being hugged. Within a day the tightness turns into a dull awareness and by day three you forget it is there. Each new tray repeats that cycle in a milder form.

Speech is slightly affected for a day or two. Reading aloud for ten minutes on the first evening helps most people adjust.

The routine settles quickly: trays out before breakfast, brush, trays in; out for lunch, rinse, in; out for dinner, brush and floss, in for the night. Keep the case with you. Trays wrapped in a tissue at a restaurant are the number one way aligners get thrown away.

Why patients choose i-Smile for aligners

  • One dentist, start to finish. Dr. Upasana does the scan, plans the case, checks every tray and handles refinements herself. You are not passed between people.
  • Honest case selection. Around one in five patients who come in asking for aligners are told that braces, or a short course of braces first, will give a better result. We would rather lose an aligner case than give you a compromised smile.
  • Refinements and retainers included. Aligner packages at i-Smile include refinement trays when needed and a set of retainers at the end, so the quoted price is the final price.
  • Quick visits, evening hours. Check-ups take about 15 minutes and the clinic is open until 9 pm, so you do not have to take leave from work.
  • Over 390 cases since 2012 across every kind of crowding, spacing and relapse.

After treatment: keeping the result

Teeth have a memory. Without retainers, the fibres around the roots slowly pull them back towards where they started. This is true after braces as well as aligners.

You will wear clear retainers full-time for about three months, then at night only. Night wear continues indefinitely, which sounds daunting but takes about ten seconds a day and becomes as automatic as brushing. Retainers last two to three years and are inexpensive to replace.

What changes the price

  • Number of trays. Simple cases need 10 to 20 trays, complex ones 40 or more.
  • Brand. Invisalign packages cost more than Indian brands for the same number of trays.
  • One arch or both. Treating only the lower front teeth costs less than a full upper and lower case.
  • Preparatory work. Cavities, gum treatment or a cleaning may be needed before starting; these are quoted separately.
  • Refinements. Included in i-Smile packages; some clinics charge extra, so compare like with like.

Questions patients ask

Clear Aligners FAQs

How much do clear aligners cost in Ghatkopar, Mumbai?
At i-Smile, Indian aligner brands such as Toothsi cost roughly ₹65,000 to ₹1,20,000 and Invisalign roughly ₹1,60,000 to ₹3,50,000. The exact figure depends on how many trays your case needs and whether refinements are likely. You get a fixed quote after the scan and 3D preview, before anything is made. EMI options are available.
Are clear aligners as effective as braces?
For mild to moderate crowding, spacing and relapse after braces, aligners give results that match braces. For large tooth movements, rotations of round teeth, or bites where the jaws are misaligned, braces are still more predictable. Dr. Upasana will tell you honestly which option suits your case, and sometimes recommends a short course of braces followed by aligners.
Do clear aligners hurt?
Most people feel pressure or mild soreness for two to three days when they start a new tray. It fades as the teeth move. There are no wires or brackets, so there are no cuts on the cheeks or lips. Over-the-counter painkillers are rarely needed.
How long does aligner treatment take?
Simple cases, such as slight crowding of the lower front teeth, can finish in 4 to 6 months. Moderate cases usually take 9 to 12 months, and complex cases up to 18 months or more. Wearing the trays 20 to 22 hours a day is the biggest factor; skipping hours delays the result.
Invisalign or Toothsi, which should I choose?
Invisalign uses a patented material and has the longest track record, especially for complex movements. Indian brands such as Toothsi are manufactured locally, cost considerably less, and work well for mild to moderate cases. After your scan, we show you the plan with both options where both are suitable, and you choose.
Can I eat and drink with aligners in?
Only plain water. Take the trays out for meals, tea, coffee and anything sugary or coloured, then brush or at least rinse before putting them back. This keeps the trays clear and protects your teeth from cavities.
Will people notice I am wearing aligners?
Rarely. The trays are thin and transparent. Small tooth-coloured attachments on some teeth are hard to spot from a normal speaking distance. Speech may lisp slightly for the first day or two.
Do I need to wear retainers afterwards?
Yes. Teeth drift back without retainers, whatever method straightened them. You wear clear retainers full-time for a few months and then only at night, indefinitely. Retainers are included in the packages at i-Smile.
I had braces as a teenager and my teeth have shifted. Can aligners fix that?
This is one of the most common reasons adults come to us, and one of the best uses of aligners. Relapse cases are usually mild and finish quickly, often within 6 months.
Do you offer EMI for aligners?
Yes. We can split the cost into monthly instalments through partner finance options, and the initial consultation fee of ₹350 is adjusted against your treatment. Ask us for the current plans.
